Lady of the Farm 2015 Recap

Within a week, 2015 will be over and we will welcome in 2016. It's been a long and interesting year full of learning about farming and trying hard to become a good farm girlfriend. It's had its ups and its had its downs. In one year, I began my blog, learned how to work at the Farmer's Market, went on a couple of trips, rode the tractor all Summer, did real estate courses, lost my job, started a new job, and fell deeper in love with my Farmer. I have full faith that 2016 will be even better than 2015.
Until then, here's a little recap of 2015:

The healthiest food ever!

Photo Credit: Yoga on a Beach
Today, my newest cookbook came in, it's called, "Homesteader's Kitchen: Recipes from Farm to Table" by Robin Burnside. As I searched through the recipes I found something that definitely caught my eye.

"Breakfast Quinoa with fresh strawberries, blueberries and almonds."

I've had quinoa (pronounced keen-wa) before, it's extremely healthy for you. Some of the benefits include: It's high in fiber, gluten free (which makes it even better for me), high in protein, low glycemic index, high in magnesium, loaded with antioxidants, helps to lose weight, easy to incorporate into your diet, reduces risks of colon cancer, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. It also helps with tissue growth and repair.

How much healthier can you get? Here's a recipe for breakfast quinoa, but don't think it's just for breakfast. You can substitute your pasta or rice for quinoa! Not only is it healthier to do that but it will also taste better!

How to leave the city and begin in the country

My last post about how I would love to be (in a dream world) a housewife who can afford to quit her job and take care of her farm and family. Since it was so popular & so many people viewed it, I decided to give you a "How-to:" post. As in, "How to leave the city and begin in the country". Continue reading to learn how you can make this transition as smoothly as possible.

Homesteading Dreams

As we speak I am on the phone with "The Farmer", and he is convinced that I am off my rocker.
I think it'd be amazing to "live off the grid". If in the perfect world I didn't have to work a full-time job, this is what my plan would be. I'd stay home all day. I know you'd think it'd make me go crazy but I'd find ways to keep myself busy. Here's how:

Forgiviness

Romans 12: 9-10 says, "Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." We are to truly love one another, hate evil.Hold tightly to what is good and enjoy showing each other the love we have for each other. There's so much to say anything this, but first, let me rant.

Couldn't we all take something from this? I know I could. There's so many things in my life that I have had trouble getting over. Even as a child my mom had to sit me down and try to talk me into forgiving and forgetting people who did me wrong. Through the years I've always had trouble.

But within the past few years I've met people along the way who were almost like breaking points for me.

Christmas Gifts for Farmwives/ Farm Girls

Christmas is the only time of year that I'm clueless when people ask what I want. People used to ask what I wanted and I'd stare at them with this blank stare then go, "Check back with me in about 2 weeks.." Now that I'm getting older I'm starting to think that maybe I should've asked for stuff like a crock pot and cookbooks and furniture when I was growing up! Haha! Wouldn't that make people wonder? But anyway, I got a gift card last night and I literally sat there for an hour thinking of how I'd spend my money. I could buy that adorable crock pot I want, I could buy a boatload of clothes, a pile of books, some stuff that I could make and sell or whatever else I wanted. This was MY money for ME to buy whatever I wanted. SO what did I buy? A bible and a cookbook. Then, it was all gone.
So, why a bible and a cookbook? Why not something that could make me more money? Or why not that crock pot so I could have my dinner ready when I got home from work? Here's why..

So what's up with this little elf thing?

Okay, so I'm guilty. I got an Elf on the Shelf. Not only does it give me an excuse to bring out my little kid side but it's actually fun to see everyone's reactions to where the elf shows up. Today was the first morning of December so our elf, Oliver, was found in the fake snow in my Christmas village making a snow angel. Oh goodness. I love the concept of the Elf on the Shelf and will definitely be doing it for my children whenever they get old enough. Might as well stock up on my elf now right?

Anyway, a bunch of people (including The Farmer) had no clue what was up with the elf on the shelf. So, I tried to explain...

Which was mainly some babbling and stumbling around words. So, I researched it and this is what I got.
